Although I don't have a significant enough sample size for scientifically valid conclusions, at this point I must recommend the genuine Epson ink cartridges for best color reproduction from an Epson printer. My adventure with off-brand cartridges suggests that they yield good-enough color for plotting business data for your work colleagues, but for your family photos you will want the more reliable and life-like color balance provided by the actual Epson product. (The Epson glossy premium photo paper works nicely with their cartridges.)

Prefer the price of the off brand stuff, but the genuine ones rarely disappoint.
