Inserting or removing a cable causes a brief power loss to other connected devices. Not a problem if you’re charging your phone but wreaks havoc with a usb powered usb-c to DisplayPort adapter; your computer will see your display has disconnected and reconfigure open application windows accordingly, besides a black screen for 2-3 seconds. Not to mention causing a Raspberry Pi to reboot. Note that full power must depend on the connected device supporting some advanced power negotiation. My raspberry pi 3B+ lacked power even when connected to the 20w or even 65w supply with a good cable. But it will deliver fast charging to a new smartphone or laptop over usb-c.
